Greetings Parents!!

Hi Everyone! This week Anthony taught from James and 1John continuing his theme of Loving on Purpose! Faith without works is dead. He discussed that works will be a natural outflow of true faith. He talked about Jesus putting himself in situations in which he would surely be interrupted and how we should have the same attitude even if it’s hard.

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

James 2:14-17: 14 What good is it, dear brothers and sisters, if you say you have faith but don’t show it by your actions? Can that kind of faith save anyone? 15 Suppose you see a brother or sister who has no food or clothing, 16 and you say, “Good-bye and have a good day; stay warm and eat well”—but then you don’t give that person any food or clothing. What good does that do?

17 So you see, faith by itself isn’t enough. Unless it produces good deeds, it is dead and useless.

What does James mean when he says that faith by itself is useless?

What has to accompany our faith?

Does that mean that we are saved by what we do? Explain.

1 John 3:14-15: 14 If we love our Christian brothers and sisters, it proves that we have passed from death to life. But a person who has no love is still dead. 15 Anyone who hates another brother or sister is really a murderer at heart. And you know that murderers don’t have eternal life within them.

What truth are we showing when we act in love instead of just talking about it?

Why does that give us confidence?

What made the difference between the priest and the Samaritan? (Luke 10:30-37)

This week, allow yourself to be interrupted. Tonight, pray for opportunities to show God’s love to others and not just talk about it.

I pray you will have a blessed week and may even have a moment to discuss this week’s lesson with your student!

It is such a privilege that you entrust your students to us each week-we don’t take that responsibility lightly! Please let us know if we can help in any way!

As always parents, we’re here for you and your students!

On behalf of the entire youth staff,

Nancy Rodriguez

 Greetings Parents!!

Hi Everyone! This week Arthur Goncalves preached on “What real love looks like.” This theme continues through the next week in conjunction with the “Battle of the Sexes.” Your students will NOT want to miss out! Here are the discussion questions from last night-take some time with your students this week, won’t you to discuss what they learned.

Small Group Discussion Questions

Romans 13:8 8 Owe nothing to anyone—except for your obligation to love one another. If you love your neighbor, you will fulfill the requirements of God’s law.

Why do we owe a debt to Jesus Christ?

What does that mean in our lives every day?

Romans 13:9-10- 9 For the commandments say, “You must not commit adultery. You must not murder. You must not steal. You must not covet.” These—and other such commandments—are summed up in this one commandment: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” 10 Love does no wrong to others, so love fulfills the requirements of God’s law.

Many people think Christianity is all about a list of rules, how do these verses address that?

Romans 13:12-13- 12 The night is almost gone; the day of salvation will soon be here. So remove your dark deeds like dirty clothes, and put on the shining armor of right living. 13 Because we belong to the day, we must live decent lives for all to see. Don’t participate in the darkness of wild parties and drunkenness, or in sexual promiscuity and immoral living, or in quarreling and jealousy.

In what way do these verses sound like today’s view of relationships?

Romans 13:14- 14 Instead, clothe yourself with the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ. And don’t let yourself think about ways to indulge your evil desires.

How will our lives look if we are clothed with Christ?

Romans 13:11- 11 This is all the more urgent, for you know how late it is; time is running out. Wake up, for our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed.

Why is it so important to live our these verses?

Greetings Parents!!

Hi Everyone! Anthony preached on the topic of “Loving on purpose, rather than by accident.” This theme continues through the next two weeks in conjunction with the “Battle of the Sexes.” Your students will NOT want to miss out! Here are the discussion questions from last night-take some time with your students this week, won’t you to discuss what they learned.

Small Group Discussion Questions

Reread 1John 2:15-17. When we find ourselves pulled by the desires listed, what does John say the root cause is?

And if we love the world, what does John say that indicates?

Will those things last?

Now read 1 Timothy 1:5.  How can we love on purpose this week and make sure that we’re doing it with…

A pure heart?

A clear conscience?

Genuine faith?

Tonight as you pray, and all this week, spend some time looking over 1 Corinthians 13:4-7. These things don’t come naturally to us.  Identify at least one area listed that you will pray for help in and actively put into practice this week.

Greetings Parents!!

Welcome back everyone!  We pray you had a phenomenal holiday season! Last night we began with learning about becoming NEW CREATIONS in Christ Jesus.  A study guide was sent home with your student to use as a devotional:

Monday: 2 Corinthians Chapter 5 – key verse 5:17

What does it mean that we are made new in Christ?

Ask God to help understand what it means and how to live it out this week.

Tuesday: 2 Corinthians Chapter 6 – key verse 6:16 & 17

Yesterday we learned that when we are in Christ we are new creations. How does verse 16 & 17 help us understand that better?

Ask God to help you live differently (for Him) today.

Wednesday: 2 Corinthians Chapter 7- key verse 7:10

Repentance means to turn away from.  In this case the verse is talking about turning away from sin, or the old way of living. How often are you sorry for the sin in your life?

The good news is that Christ forgives us when we ask Him.  Ask God to help you to be aware of sin in your life and then confess that sin to Him today.

Thursday: 2 Corinthians Chapter 8 & 9- key verse 8:9

This is a chapter about generosity.  How does verse 9 help us understand Jesus’ generosity to us?  What did He give up to save us?

Thank God for sending Jesus to be your Savior, and ask Him to help you to be generous today.

Friday: 2 Corinthians Chapter 10- key verse 10:12

Why is it important to compare ourselves to God’s standard and not the people around us?

Ask God to help you see yourself as He sees you—as his child.

Saturday: 2 Corinthians Chapter 12- key verse 12:9

What situation in your life right now do you need God’s strength in?

Ask Him to help you live in His strength today.
