This Sunday, July 6, we will meet for one service at 10:00am.
The church will gather on this 4th of July weekend to celebrate our freedom to worship without fear – all because our forefathers boldly declared they would rather die for liberty than live in bondage – and many of them would die. Many bloody years after this declaration, the newly formed United States was militarily victorious over their British oppressors and the nation was truly free!
However, the primary focus of our worship Sunday will be the freedom we have in Jesus Christ. Ironically, this freedom is not gained by our declaration, our commitment, or our victory in warfare – our freedom is realized by surrender to the truth that there is nothing we can do to secure our freedom in and of ourselves. Jesus made the declaration, Jesus fulfilled the commitment and Jesus gained the victory by His sole sacrifice on the cross and His resurrection from the dead.
Americans tend to be self-sufficient fighters. God lets us know that until there is a radical change within that causes us to humbly surrender we will never know true freedom.
In preparation for our time of study this Sunday, let me encourage you to read the following verses:
- John 8:32;36 – His truth, not my effort, sets me free
- 2 Peter 2:19b – I am a slave to whatever has mastered me
- Romans 6:15-18 – So it is best to be a slave to righteousness, not to sin
I look forward to worshiping with y’all again this Sunday. Come early, stay late – be part of the family – be the Church.
