People were also bringing babies to Jesus to have him touch them. When the disciples saw this, they rebuked them. But Jesus called the children him and said, “Let the children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.” (Luke 18:15-16)

We do baby dedications at Avalon Church – but this was the ultimate “baby dedication.” As a parent, how thrilled would you be to have the Lord Jesus Christ himself cradle your infant and not only affirm he or she was a gift from God but that people needed to become like your child to truly understand the Kingdom of God?

Pause with me just a moment and envision Jesus in Mary’s womb. I think we got the “baby Jesus in a manger” thing down – but how about Jesus as an embryo and then a fetus? Even then He was recognizable. When Mary visited Elizabeth, who was also pregnant with John the Baptist, the baby John leaped in his mother’s womb at the awareness of the presence of Mary and Jesus. (Luke 1:41)

I am so glad Mary understood the sanctity of human life.

During His earthly ministry many years after His birth, Jesus would talk to, interact with, and even dine with folks who had made horrific mistakes. Some were thieves; others prostitutes or adulterers; still others had killed another human. But the message Jesus shared with all of them was the same – He had not come to condemn them, but to save and restore them.

I am so glad Jesus understood the sanctity of human life.

This Sunday we have invited Pastor David Williams to come share a message about saving lives and ministering compassion to the hurting. David understands the sanctity of human life – but he did not always; yet in those dark moments Jesus saved him and ministered compassion to him. The truth of scripture and the testimony of David’s life are powerful and you will want to be present for this special service.

In preparation for our time of study Sunday, let me encourage you to read the following verses:

  • Job 10:8-12
  • Psalm 119:73
  • Psalm 139:13-16
  • John 3:16-17

Just a reminder that Debbie Denton from the Cornerstone Pregnancy Center will be at a table in the lobby Sunday to provide additional information about how you can be involved in saving lives.
