“We are offspring of Abraham and have never been enslaved to anyone.
How is it that you say, ‘You will become free’?” John 8:33 (ESV)
“The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news
to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners
and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free. Luke 4:18 (NIV)
I truly believe we live in the greatest country on earth. In just a few days, Americans in this great land and all over the globe will be united in their celebration of Independence Day. As Americans, we value freedom. Our nation was founded on the principle of “freedom and justice for all.” But…..
Are you free?
In the passage above, it is obvious that the people Jesus was speaking with thought they were free. Jesus responds by telling them that, in fact, they were slaves.
Political freedom is a wonderful thing, but spiritual freedom is even better, because you can experience it no matter what sort of government you live under. And true spiritual freedom lasts forever. But what is it?
This Sunday we will consider together just what Jesus means when He says,
“You will know the truth and the truth will set you free.”
“Let us consider how to encourage one another…, not neglecting to meet together.” (Hebrews 10:24-25) This week, we’ll have two opportunities to meet together:
- Tonight at 7:00 for an encouraging time of worship, and
- Sunday at 10:00 for a time of study and transformation.
I look forward to seeing you at both!
Love you church,
“Lord, if you want to use me in any way today, I am available.”
