This Sunday we are going to take a break from our study in the gospel of John to hear directly from John – John Molloy, that is!
You may recall that Avalon Church ordained John last year and we are excited to have Pastor John come share a message this Sunday. And because John is so well known and loved by our children, we are inviting all the elementary school age kids to join us in “the big room.”
(Note: there will not be any classes this Sunday only for K-5th grade.
Classes for nursery through pre-K will meet as usual.)
John has discovered that determining a sermon title can be a challenge. Possible titles for this Sunday include:
• A Day In The Life Of Levi – What Defines Us?
• Jesus Had Levi’s
• What’s in a name?
• Does who I “was” determine who I am or who I will become?
• Out with the old, in with the new!
No matter the final title, here is the scene found in Mark 2:13-14:
Imagine for a moment you’re sitting at your desk, minding your business, when you look down the hallway and here comes Jesus. And it’s not only Jesus, but Jesus and a crowd of people, many of whom you may have known your entire life, and some you may have cheated in a business deal. You quickly look for an escape route but by the time you’ve looked around the office it’s too late – there in front of you, surrounded by a huge crowd, stands Jesus. You quickly do a self-evaluation: you can speak, hear, see, walk, and it’s not the Sabbath so he He’s probably not here to do one of those healings things He’s been known to do. He’s not a fisherman so you don’t have a tax to assess on him. So what’s He doing here in front of me and why am I so excited yet terrified at the same time?
Come join us this Sunday to see what happens next …
Need a hint? Then go ahead and read Mark 2:13-17. That will help but you still won’t know exactly what Pastor John is going to do.
Have a super 4th of July! Celebrate the freedom you have to gather this Sunday to worship our great God! See you Sunday!
“Lord, if you want to use me in any way today, I am available.”
