Every morning and throughout the day I am praying for the young people (and adults) who are at camp this week.
Church camp holds many pleasant and significant memories for me. Summers spent at Pleasant Valley Christian Camp at the base of Mt. Rainer were times of growing in my understanding and relationship with God, of establishing lifelong friendships, and finding love. Yup, 45 years ago Debbie and I met at church camp (scaring some of you parents, aren’t I?).
The theme of this year’s camp at Lake Placid is “Awake!” I know from hearing reports from even the first day that this message is resounding in the hearts and minds of our young folks. Trust me, when they return to “take over” the worship service this Sunday, their energy and enthusiasm for Jesus will definitely ensure that you, too, are “Awake!”
Our Youth Pastor, Arthur Goncalves, is going to share the “Awake!” message with us this Sunday. The theme verse is Ephesians 5:14:
“Wake up, O sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.”
However, to gain everything you can from this vital teaching, Arthur asks that you do a little homework. To comprehend some of the differences between someone who is asleep and someone who is awake, he would like to encourage you to read Ephesians 4:17 – 5:21.
The “Student Takeover” is always a memorable service as we experience the “church of tomorrow” in action. From greeters to praise team, every element of our time together this Sunday will be in the hands of our young people. Be encouraged. Be an encourager! Feed the flame of their passion for God by sharing a simple word of thanks or many words of interest and affirmation.
I am looking forward with great anticipation to worshipping with you this Sunday!
