Jesus, I believe. But… | Avalon Church

Pastor Dale shared a powerful message last Sunday that pivoted around Jesus repeated appeal to His disciples to, “Believe me.”  Pastor also shared about his own personal belief struggle from week to week. He explained it with the following dialogue that occurs more often in his life than he would like:

“Lord, thank you for the worship time and the message today. I believe you! Inspired by the Holy Spirit and your Word, I am committing to doing ___________ this week!”

“Good morning, Lord. I know, it has been a week and, even though I believe you, not once did I do the things I committed to last Sunday. I am sorry. Thank you for your grace and forgiveness. Help me believe you more.”

If you have placed your faith in Jesus and are a believer, you probably recognize this dialogue – I know I do.

Next Sunday the message will illustrate (and it will take the entire stage to do so) why this happens, what God is doing to try to resolve it and how we can best cooperate with the Lord in his working in our lives so this type of dialogue occurs less and less often.

Although the study will not be primarily rooted in the gospel of John, it is important that we endeavor to grasp this concept to enhance our understanding of the Holy Spirit before we continue our journey through John with the “Unleashing the Power Within” church wide Bible study.

Please consider the following scripture verses in preparation for Sunday:

Romans 12:2 – it is all in your mind
Ephesians 1:17 – it is the Spirit’s work
James 1:2-8 – the fire is intended to reveal the impurities in our faith
James 4:7-8 – submission is the key and it is a choice

May I ask you to please talk to God about next Sunday? Ask the Lord to help us understand how He wants this message presented. And ask the Holy Spirit to build anticipation within you for what He wants to reveal to you that day. Thanks!
