Something is controlling you!
Pastor Jim rarely lets me off the hook when he asks me why I did something and I reply, “I don’t know.” He is quick to say to me, “There is a reason for everything you do, every choice you make, every word you say. You just haven’t taken the time (or are afraid) to look and listen inside for what prompted that behavior.”
Something is controlling you. Wouldn’t you agree that identifying what (or who) it is would be important since every decision you make is filtered through what controls you? It is one thing talking with Pastor Jim; but when God says to a believer, “That was interesting. Why did you do that?” a response of “I don’t know” is probably inadequate.
So what does it mean to be controlled by the Spirit? Is that the same as being filled with the Spirit? Is it the same as walking in the Spirit?
Is it a one-time event? Or an event that occurs again and again periodically? Or is it a process that has a conclusion?
Are there steps necessary to achieve this experience? How can you know if you are truly and consistently filled, controlled, walking…
Thankfully, the Bible contains the answers to all of these questions and I am excited to share some of those answers with you this Sunday! Let me encourage you to consider again the verses in John where Jesus talks about the Holy Spirit (John 14:16-17; 25-27; 16:5-15) and the verses from Romans that I shared in the message last Sunday (Romans 8:5-17). And of course, take a look at Galatians 5:16-25.
Church family, I want you to know that I have learned much in these weeks we have studied together. My daily prayer for you is that you, too, are experiencing the joy of growing in the Lord!
See you Sunday!
“Lord, if you want to use me in any way today, I am available.”
