Elders

Vic Reyes

Vic Reyes

Elder

Vic and Shelli Reyes are founding members of Avalon Church.  Having initially met at the University of Miami, they were married years later in 1987 by a rabbi and a priest; Vic was a lifelong devout Catholic while Shelli was raised Jewish. Through the prayers and example of several Air Force friends, Shelli became curious about the Bible and the Christian faith, surrendering her life to Christ in 1994.  Two years later, in Washington DC, Vic started attending a Bible study sponsored by The Christian Embassy (part of Cru) and came to understand what it really means to be a Christian and dedicated his life to Christ. Vic, Shelli and their children, Christopher and Kimberly, were all baptized at Lorton Baptist Church. Vic left for a remote assignment in Greenland while Shelli and the kids moved to Orlando to be near his family.  Vic rejoined his family in Orlando in 1999 at which time they attended an introductory meeting for a new church start, Avalon Church, and they never looked back. Vic eventually retired from the military in 2003.  Christopher graduated from MIT in 2012 with a dual major in computer engineering and music.  Kimberly graduated from UM (go Canes) in 2013 with a bachelors and masters in Industrial Engineering.  Vic is now a defense contractor supporting Army projects.  He has served on the Avalon Church Elder Board three previous times. Vic and Shelli host a small group Bible study in their home the first and third Wednesday each month.
Vladimir Romero

Vladimir Romero

Elder

Vladimir Romero was born in Havana Cuba and has four children Edmanuel, Yeisis, Juan Pablo and Isabella. He is happily married to Eliana Ortega and they have shared their lives since 1992, thanks to the Lord.

From the first day Vladimir became a Christian some years ago, he has served God faithfully in different positions: as part of the Worship team, usher, deacon,  leader of men’s ministry, volunteer work in the community, missions and missionary trips, teaching of the word, services of fasting and prayer in our congregation, and in everything that the Lord puts in his hands.  He and Eliana have been members of Avalon Church since 2014, serve God every Sunday in Hispanic Ministry and are very grateful for what God has done in their lives and family through our Pastors and our Leaders.

They have lived in Avalon Park since 2005 and believe that God has planted them in this place with a purpose and a Divine plan.

One of Vladimir’s favorite verses is Romans 5: 8:  “But God shows his love for us, in that while still sinners, Christ died for us.”

Rodney Choi

Rodney Choi

Elder

Rodney left a small town in Hawaii to attend the U.S. Naval Academy and serve a 20 year career in the U.S. Marine Corps. Upon retiring from the Marines in 2006, Rodney, his wife Kristine, and their two children, Mark and Kelly, initially settled in Pennsylvania.  Rodney and Kristine moved to Florida in 2014. They came to Avalon Church their first Sunday in Florida and loved it. After looking at only one other church, they came back to Avalon and stayed. Rodney works on simulation systems for the military and Kristine works for the Orange County Public Schools. Their children are both married and living back in Pennsylvania. Rodney and Kristine work with the 18:25 young adult group. Prior to coming to Orlando Rodney participated in various service missions and led small groups. He believes that the church serves as both a beacon for drawing non-believers to Christ and a refuge for believers to be renewed for further service.

Spoiling grandchildren is one of their favorite pastimes as well as attending as many of their sporting and school events as possible. Rian considers prayer the most important spiritual element of Christianity. He believes the tremendous power of prayer through the Holy Spirit can be greater utilized in the church today.   He also hosts a Prayer Life Group and one of his favorite verses is Ephesians 6:18:  “And pray in the spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayer and requests.
